How Much Water To Drink?

This is a Question I get asked a lot. 

There is a simple equation that I'll tell you at the end of this blog post to figure out how much you should drink and some tips I'll share of how to drink that much a day, but I want to first reiterate WHY you should be drinking this much water and how it effects your daily life. 

As I'm sure you know, water compromises over 50% of our body. 

Therefore it's important to constantly replenish the water that is in your body. Think of it as a fish tank, overtime if you don't "clean the tank" then the fish can't live with all of the toxins. Your insides have a similar system with water, you must refill your tank and be consistent in doing so for your body to function at it's highest level. 

When you first start drinking the recommended amount of water, you will have to eliminate the waste, so to speak, more frequently, but the more and more consistent you are with replenishing your body the less of an urge it is to go to the restroom 20x in a day. 

You might also feel a bit bloated from drinking more than you are used to in the first few days, this is a common effect. Just so you know, the opposite effect is happening, your body is getting used to having more water to be able to function and after about a week of being consistently in your daily amount, then you will actually feel LESS bloated. 

I could go on with a list of reasons why water is so important and the reasons but I prefer to list them in bullet points: 

It makes your skin look better
Helps you digest food faster
Provides energy to your muscles
It assists in removing bowels by moving bodily fluids along quicker
It prevents heart attackes
Gives your brain a boost
Keeps you alert
Helps you lose weight
Not to mention, it SAVES you money. Think about how much money you would save in a year if you only ordered water when eating out at a restaurant. How about if you didn't have to pay for the "extra" drinks to be available in your grocery budget. 

Let me show you how to calculate how much water YOU should be drinking daily. (Example in paranethesis) 

1. Figure out your weight in lbs. (150 lbs) 

2. Divide that in half. (75 lbs) 

3. Change lbs to ounces. (75 ounces)

If you weighed 150 lbs you should be drinking AT LEAST 75 ounces of water a day. More if you sweat often and/or workout each day.
